The plants are one of the living creatures on earth and as the animals and human has to respire all the time to stay alive, the plants also have their own way of breathing:absorbing carbon dioxide (CO2) and releasing oxygen (O2) at day time but at night respire by reversing the process (absorbing O2 and releasing CO2) just like human, because of the absence of the sunlight,, that's why it's unsafe to sleep in a non-air-conditioned room with a plant inside because it could cause choking
